The Centre for Information Technology and Development (CITAD) has emphasized the need for stronger accountability, digital transparency, and citizens’ participation in the fight against corruption in Nigeria. Corruption remains a significant threat to Nigeria’s development and democratic stability.
This was contained in a statement signed by YZ Ya’u, Executive Director of CITAD, on the occasion of the 2025 International Anti-Corruption Day.
CITAD notes that corruption persists in procurement, public finances, election processes, and digital governance. The organization calls for renewed commitment and stronger systemic reforms to address these issues.

The statement highlights concerns over corruption in digital systems, including opaque data governance and misuse of surveillance tools. CITAD stresses that the fight against corruption must cover both offline and online governance.
CITAD urges the government to strengthen transparency and accountability, promote digital accountability, and protect activists and whistleblowers. Anti-corruption agencies are called to prioritize digitally enabled corruption investigations.
