The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) has approved the promotion of thirty (30) Controllers of Corrections (CCs) to the esteemed rank of Assistant Controller General of Corrections (ACG).
This was disclosed in a statement issued by Deputy Controller of Corrections Umar Abubakar, Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
According to the statement, the promotion reflects the board’s commitment to merit-based advancement, professional excellence, and the continued strengthening of leadership within the Service.

Among the newly promoted officers are twenty-seven (27) general duty personnel who have distinguished themselves through exceptional dedication, leadership, and operational competence across various formations in the country.
Additionally, three (3) professional officers were elevated in recognition of their specialized expertise and outstanding contributions in the fields of Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing, and Public Health.
“This promotion exercise is part of the ongoing reform agenda within the Service and aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,” Umar stated. He also acknowledged the role of the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, whose resolute commitment to repositioning the Service for greater efficiency and professionalism is described as unprecedented.
The Controller General of Corrections, Sylvester Nwakuche, MFR, mni, has congratulated the newly promoted officers, urging them to redouble their commitment to service delivery, strategic leadership, and the core correctional mandates of reformation, rehabilitation, and reintegration of inmates.
He emphasized that the promotion is both a reward for past achievements and a call to higher responsibilities, in line with global best practices in correctional administration.
The statement concluded by reiterating the Service’s resolve to build a disciplined, professional, and motivated workforce capable of addressing the complex demands of modern correctional management and public safety.
