APC Governors Back Tinubu’s Security Reforms, Pledge Support
Governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have thrown their weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s security reforms, pledging to reinforce local security architecture in their respective states. The governors made this known at a two-day strategic retreat of the Progressive Governors Forum in Lagos, where they assessed national issues, including security coordination, economic reforms, and grassroots governance. The Forum’s Chairman, Senator Hope Uzodimma, Governor of Imo State, commended Tinubu for the ongoing re-engineering of Nigeria’s security architecture, describing it as a welcome development. The governors also expressed appreciation for the improved coordination between federal, state, and local security structures, and the courage and sacrifices of security agencies and community volunteers. “We reviewed the security situation across the country and expressed appreciation for the improved coordination between federal, state and local security structures, as well as the courage and sacrifices of security agencies and community volunteers,” the communiqué read. On the economy, the governors acknowledged the strain on citizens resulting from recent macroeconomic adjustments, commending Tinubu’s efforts to strengthen the economy. They resolved to scale up support for food production, small businesses, youth employment, and social protection for vulnerable groups, emphasizing their commitment to working closely with federal institutions and local governments to ensure improvements in the quality of life of Nigerians. The Forum also underscored infrastructure and urban renewal as crucial to economic growth, applauding Lagos State for its pioneering role in transport reforms, urban regeneration, and innovative financing models. The governors pledged increased investment in roads, housing, public transport, sanitation, digital connectivity, and climate-friendly infrastructure, with an emphasis on inclusion. On grassroots governance, the Forum reiterated that effective local governance is central to delivering the Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots, resolving to deepen reforms aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and service delivery in local government administration. The governors reaffirmed their loyalty to the party, commending the APC leadership for efforts to entrench discipline and internal democracy.
