Former Governor of Kano State and National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has urged the Kano State Police Command to withdraw security operatives deployed to the Nasarawa Palace, where the 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, is currently residing. Kwankwaso made the call on Monday while speaking at the official launch of the Kano State Government-owned Neighbourhood Watch Corps held in Kano. The former governor and ex-Senator representing Kano Central Senatorial District maintained that Muhammadu Sanusi II remains the only legitimate Emir of Kano, warning that the creation or sustenance of parallel traditional institutions could undermine peace and stability in the state. According to him, the use of security personnel to impose or sustain an emir not recognised by law is unacceptable and capable of escalating tension within Kano. He called on security agencies to operate strictly within the confines of the law and in line with the directives of the duly constituted government, stressing the need to avoid actions that could provoke public unrest. The former governor warned that continued security backing for what he described as a parallel emirate structure could deepen divisions and destabilise the state. The call comes amid ongoing legal battles surrounding the Kano Emirate, a situation that has continued to generate public debate and concern among residents and key stakeholders across the state.

The Kano State Government has launched the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps as part of efforts to strengthen security at the grassroots level and enhance the protection of lives and property across the state. The corps, made up of 2,000 personnel, was inaugurated at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presiding over the ceremony alongside heads of security agencies operating in the state. ‘The Historica Nigeria‘ reports that the Neighbourhood Watch Corps was established to complement the operations of conventional security agencies through improved surveillance, intelligence gathering and community-based security interventions. Members of the corps, largely drawn from youths across the state, have undergone training in basic security operations, early warning mechanisms and collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to prevent crime and maintain public order. Umar Idris Shuaibu, Kano The Kano Science Schools Old Students Association (KASSOSA), National Body, has announced Thursday, December 25, 2025, as the date for its 2025 Annual General Meeting (AGM). Eminent Nigerians have described retired Supreme Court Judge, Hon. While launching the book in honour of Justice Aboki, Kano State Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf recalled Aboki’s integrity, dedication to service, and impartiality during his tenure as a Supreme Court Judge. Governor Yusuf, represented by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Abdulkarim Kabiru Maude, SAN, stated that the compendium provides practical guidance for judges, prosecutors, investigators, legal practitioners, policymakers, and students of law. The Governor reiterated Kano State Government’s commitment to strengthening the administration of justice and aligning itself with national policy objectives and international best practices in cyber governance. “Through relevant authorities and institutions, including the Kano State Information Development Agency (KASIPDA), the State has adopted data protection and cybersecurity measures consistent with the Nigerian data protection regime, emphasizing responsible handling, digital safety, and public awareness,” he stressed. The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, has concluded comprehensive security arrangements for the Christmas and New Year celebrations, assuring residents of adequate security across the state. This was conveyed in a statement signed and issued today by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, ANIPR, MNISMA, FNACSP, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, and made available to ‘The Historica Nigeria’. According to the statement, the security measures are in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, mandating all police commands nationwide to deploy sufficient personnel and operational assets to ensure a safe, peaceful and crime-free festive period. The statement disclosed that CP Bakori, on Monday, December 22, 2025, met with operational commanders, including Heads of Departments, Area, Squadron and Tactical Commanders, as well as Divisional Police Officers, where he ordered intensified patrols, visibility policing, intelligence-led operations and confidence-building engagements throughout the festive season. It added that the Kano State Police Command, in collaboration with other security agencies, has put in place robust security arrangements to safeguard lives and property before, during and after the celebrations. As part of proactive measures, the Command also issued security advisories to the public, urging residents to remain vigilant, avoid suspicious objects, and promptly report any suspicious persons, movements or items to the nearest police station or through designated emergency lines. The police cautioned against reckless driving, car racing and over-speeding, noting that underaged children and unlicensed persons are prohibited from operating vehicles, tricycles or motorcycles. Unauthorized horse riding and the use of fireworks were also declared strictly prohibited. Parents and guardians were advised to closely monitor and accompany their children when going out to prevent cases of missing children, accidents or unsolicited engagements, while individuals and groups were warned to desist from any act capable of breaching public peace or disrupting law and order. The Centre for Human Rights and Charity Development Association (CHRCDA) has conferred an Award of Excellence on Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Eradication, Alhaji Adamu Ali Kibiya, in recognition of their humanitarian interventions across the state. This was conveyed in a statement signed by Ibrahim Abdullahi, anipr, Director of Public Enlightenment, Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Eradication. The award presentation took place on Thursday at the office of the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, where the Director General of the association, Comrade Auwal Jibril Maifada, said the honour was in appreciation of the duo’s commitment to programmes aimed at improving the living standards of the people of Kano State. Maifada said since the inception of the present administration, several roads have been rehabilitated, a development he noted has boosted economic activities and reduced travel time through improved vehicular and pedestrian movement. He also highlighted Governor Yusuf’s compassion toward women, children and other vulnerable groups, describing it as a major factor behind the award. According to him, the governor’s prompt and empathetic response to public concerns has endeared the administration to the people. The CHRCDA Director General further cited the settlement of outstanding death benefits and gratuity backlogs as clear evidence of what he described as the governor’s humane and considerate leadership style.
