The Kano State Government has directed all organisations and individuals planning to conduct surveys or censuses in the state to work directly with the Kano State Bureau of Statistics before embarking on any data collection exercise. The directive was contained in a statement signed by the Director, Field Service (Census and Survey), Auwalu Ya’u, who said the order aligns with the Kano State Bureau of Statistics Law No. 2 of 2014 and a recent circular issued by the Office of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG). He stated that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf had ordered the full enforcement of the law to ensure proper coordination and standardisation of data collection activities across all sectors. He added that such organisations are expected to “notify the Bureau of any planned data-collection activity and obtain written consent before commencement.” They are also required to collaborate with Bureau personnel on questionnaire design, sampling, fieldwork, and data processing to ensure compliance with state standards. The statement further directed that all final research reports be submitted to the Bureau for scrutiny, stating: “Submit a final report of the findings to the Bureau for validation before dissemination.” Mr. Ya’u explained that enforcing the law would help strengthen the quality of data used for planning and development in the state. “Your adherence will strengthen the quality and comparability of data across the state and support evidence-based policymaking,” he said. The statement advised individuals or organisations intending to conduct surveys to contact the Statistician-General or the Director of Field Service for guidance.

The Kano State Government, under the leadership of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reassured residents that the security and stability of the state remain intact and fully under control. In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the government said the assurance followed a State Security Council meeting held on Sunday, the 30th, with security chiefs in attendance, during which the administration reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining peace and public safety across the state. The government also dismissed recent false and sensational security claims circulating online, stating that there is no credible intelligence suggesting any imminent or significant threat to public peace. Security formations, it added, have been fully briefed, strategically deployed, and are working round the clock to prevent any breach of peace. “Every part of Kano is under active surveillance and supported by a robust security architecture,” the statement noted. Residents were urged to remain calm, patriotic, and responsible in their use of social media and other communication channels. Individuals spreading fake news were also warned to desist, as such actions threaten public order and will attract legal consequences. Governor Yusuf assured the public that his administration is committed to strengthening intelligence operations, enhancing inter-agency cooperation, and deploying advanced security mechanisms. The government reiterated that Kano will not succumb to fear, misinformation, or attempts to destabilize its peace. “Kano is safe, secure, and fully prepared to confront and defeat any threat,” the statement added, encouraging residents to remain calm and continue their normal daily activities.

The Kano State Government has acknowledged growing public concerns over the resurgence of commercial motorcycle operators, popularly known as Achaba, across several parts of the state. This was conveyed in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, who confirmed that verified intelligence reports show the presence and spread of Achaba operations in various quarters within Kano metropolis. Similar reports also indicate increased activities of motorcycle operators in nearby and border communities, despite the longstanding ban on the trade in the state. The Government further disclosed that it has received security information about the infiltration of unknown individuals operating motorcycles as commercial riders in some parts of the metropolis. In response, the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf said it is deploying appropriate security measures to contain the situation and safeguard residents across all 44 Local Government Areas of the state. Troops of Operation MESA under the 3 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have rescued seven persons abducted during a bandit attack on ‘Yankamaye Cikin Gari village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State. This was contained in a statement on Sunday by Capt. Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 3 Brigade. He said the incident occurred on Nov. 29 at about 11:00 p.m. Zubairu explained that the troops received a distress call that a large number of bandits on foot had invaded the village, abducting 10 residents and killing a 60-year-old woman. A joint team of soldiers and police operatives immediately mobilised to the area and pursued the attackers along their escape route toward Rimaye. Zubairu quoted the Commander of the 3 Brigade as commending the troops for their bravery, swift response, and professionalism during the operation. By Aminu Abdullahi Ibrahim, Kano ‎ ‎Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has directed the Kano State Centre for Disease Control (KNCDC) to conduct a comprehensive census of skin diseases affecting Almajiri pupils across the state. ‎ ‎The directive was disclosed by the Director-General of KNCDC, Professor Mohammad Adamu Abbas, during a health outreach at Tahfizul Qur’an Madarasatul Umar Farouk, Malam Babba Almajiri School in Hausawar Dan Fulani, Tarauni Local Government Area. ‎ ‎Professor Abbas explained that the governor, through the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, instructed the KNCDC to document cases of scabies and other skin infections from January to date. ‎ ‎He confirmed that the report covering January to October has been submitted, while the data for November is being finalized for onward submission. ‎ ‎He stated that the governor’s objective is to ensure that both medical and non-medical interventions are provided to Almajiri schools once the data compilation is completed. The team also distributed blankets, cardigans, Plumpy’Nut, and Tom Brown supplements to support vulnerable students. ‎ ‎Professor Abbas emphasized that the KNCDC’s core mandate is disease prevention and said the agency acts proactively to avert potential outbreaks across Kano State. ‎ ‎Speaking at the event, RCCE and surveillance pillar educate the students on various ways to protect themselves from infectious diseases. He also advised them to promptly inform their teachers whenever they fall ill. ‎ ‎On his part, the Head of the School, Malam Ahmad Abubakar of Tahfizul Qur’an Madarasatul Umar Farouk, thanked KNCDC and the Zayt Foundation for enlightening the students on disease prevention. ‎ ‎He appreciated the items donated and assured that the school will continue to support efforts aimed at safeguarding the health of its pupils. ‎ ‎Malam Ahmad Abubakar added that the school has a long-standing history, having been in existence for more than 50 years.

Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked ‘Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State, killing an elderly woman and abducting three residents during a late-night raid. The incident, which occurred around 11pm on Saturday, plunged the quiet community into fear as most villagers were already asleep when the attackers arrived. Residents said the armed men rode on motorcycles to the outskirts of the village before proceeding on foot to avoid attracting attention. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the bandits ignored her plea, killed her, and abducted the young man. The attackers also invaded another house, where they kidnapped two women, one of whom is reportedly the sister-in-law of the ward councillor. Efforts to reach the Kano State Police Command for confirmation were unsuccessful, as the spokesperson had not responded to inquiries at the time of filing this report. ‘Yankamaye, located about five kilometres from Rimaye town in neighbouring Katsina State, has recorded repeated bandit attacks, particularly after nearby Katsina communities reportedly entered into a “peace accord” with the criminal groups. Other communities in the axis, including Sundu and Birisawa, have also suffered similar raids. Only last week Monday, at least 10 residents were abducted during a night raid on Birisawa village.
