Zone One Police Headquarters in Kano has announced the appointment of DSP Abdullahi Hussaini as the new Zonal Police Public Relations Officer, following a routine administrative reshuffle in the command. This was conveyed in a statement signed by CSP Bashir Muhammad, the outgoing PRO of the zone. DSP Hussaini succeeds CSP Bashir Mohammad, who has now been posted to serve as Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) in the Zonal Operations Department. Before this new role, DSP Hussaini served as the 2nd-in-Command (2IC) Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Kano State Command. He is an alumnus of the prestigious Police Academy, Wudil, where he earned a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Physics in 2018. The Kano State Judicial Service Commission (JSC), chaired by Justice Dije Abdu Aboki, has taken major disciplinary decisions following its 88th meeting held on December 1, 2025. In a statement on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Kano State Judiciary, Baba Jibo Ibrahim, said the Commission adopted the findings and recommendations of the Judiciary Public Complaint Committee (JPCC), which investigated several petitions involving judicial personnel. According to the statement, Upper Shari’a Court Judge Umar Bala Musa of USC Dambatta was found to have delayed the release of the record of proceedings beyond the constitutionally mandated seven days, despite repeated requests over a three-month period. The Commission issued him a formal warning and directed him to ensure strict adherence to judicial ethics and constitutional obligations. The probe uncovered forged witness signatures and conflicting financial records. The Commission accepted the JPCC recommendation for Saifuddeen’s referral to the police and placed him on interim suspension without pay pending investigation. In a related disciplinary case, the Commission received the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency’s investigation report indicting Kamal Ado, a Senior Clerical Officer attached to Kurna Sharia Court. He has been charged before the Federal High Court in Kano for alleged conspiracy to deal in illegal drugs, assaulting law enforcement officers, and tampering with exhibits. Findings showed he participated in an attack that vandalised an official vehicle and facilitated the unlawful release of a suspect. The Commission suspended him without pay pending the outcome of his criminal trial. The Commission also reviewed the disciplinary status of Ibrahim Adamu, who had earlier completed a six-month suspension. Having shown remorse and improved conduct, the Commission lifted the four-year promotion deferral previously placed on him and directed that he be considered for promotion when due, subject to passing the required examinations. Baba Jibo added that the Kano State Judicial Service Commission reaffirmed its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct and remains committed to integrity, discipline, and public accountability within the judiciary.

The Northern Youth Assembly (NYA) has strongly criticised a recent publication titled “Kano New Bandits Frontier”, describing it as sensational, misleading, and lacking empirical evidence. In a statement signed by NYA President Aliyu Mohammed and Secretary General Hafiz Garba, the group faulted the article authored by Clement A. Oloyede and published on December 2, 2025, saying it misrepresented the security realities in Kano State. According to the NYA, the report appeared designed to create unnecessary panic and smear the image of a state that has historically demonstrated resilience and resistance to insecurity. The assembly said the security challenges affecting border areas are rooted in historical failures under previous administrations, including the neglect of border intelligence, withdrawal of police personnel from vulnerable communities, and failure to address youth unemployment—factors they argued created fertile ground for criminal activities. The group commended Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for adopting what it described as more coordinated and humane security strategies, particularly the SAFE CORRIDOR PROJECT, which has profiled and engaged over 5,000 repentant youths in community security and intelligence activities. It also highlighted the governor’s continued support to security agencies through logistics funding, surveillance tools, rapid-response structures, and the rehabilitation of abandoned security facilities. The statement further accused certain political actors of sabotaging the government’s efforts by exploiting the emirate crisis and influencing selective withdrawal of security personnel for political gains. These realities, it said, were ignored in the publication. The NYA urged members of the public to disregard what it described as a politically-coloured narrative and encouraged citizens to continue supporting the state government’s initiatives aimed at safeguarding peace and stability across Kano State.

The Chief of Staff to the immediate past APC National Chairman and former Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs in Kano State, Comrade Muhammad Garba, has criticised the NNPP-led administration over what he described as poor budget performance in the first three quarters of 2025. Garba was reacting to a budget review published by SOLACEBASE, which showed that key sectors such as water resources, health, and education recorded less than 40 per cent capital budget performance between January and September 2025. He said the findings revealed a wide gap between the administration’s public promises and its actual performance, describing the figures as evidence of what he called an administration that prioritises propaganda over governance. According to the report, the Ministry of Water Resources recorded only 13 per cent capital performance after spending ₦2.7 billion out of its ₦21.1 billion allocation. The review also indicated that the Kano State Water Board, which received ₦5.6 billion for capital projects, did not utilise any part of its allocation within the period. He accused the administration of abandoning several ongoing projects initiated by the previous government, including the Tiga Hydropower Project designed to support water pumping and street lighting. The former commissioner further claimed that after discarding the more efficient IPP model, the government continued to pay millions of naira to KEDCO monthly for electricity — a situation he alleged may be benefiting certain individuals. Garba also faulted the administration’s performance in the education sector. He said that despite declaring a state of emergency and allocating the highest share of the budget to education, the results remained discouraging. According to the figures, the Ministry of Education recorded 32.2 per cent capital performance, while the Ministry of Higher Education achieved only 7.7 per cent. He said the administration’s focus on sponsoring selected students abroad appeared more like political patronage than a genuine strategy to strengthen the state’s education system. “Local schools remain underfunded, overcrowded, and poorly equipped, while completed projects like the Mega Secondary School along Court Road have been abandoned,” he said. Garba also expressed concern over the health sector’s performance, noting that only ₦7.9 billion of the ₦65.7 billion capital budget for health had been utilised by September 2025. He described the underinvestment as unacceptable for a state battling recurring cholera outbreaks and high infant and maternal mortality rates. “Failure to fund primary healthcare and water infrastructure is costing lives,” he added. He went on to criticise the quality of ongoing road projects, saying many of the works were hurried and poorly coordinated. He said the surface-scraping and overlay approach had created traffic congestion due to inadequate planning. Garba said the figures raised doubts about the state government’s ability to manage the proposed ₦1 trillion budget for 2025. “When a government cannot implement even half of its approved budget, proposing a trillion-naira budget becomes nothing more than a political performance,” he said. He urged the state government to prioritise transparency, fiscal discipline, and effective project execution in the remaining months of the fiscal year.

The Chief Judge of Kano State, Hon. Justice Dije Aboki, has inaugurated the Governing Council of the Kano Multi-Court House (KMCH), a development she described as a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to modernize its justice system and strengthen alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The inauguration ceremony, held on Monday, brought together members of the judiciary, legal practitioners, government officials, and civil society actors. Justice Aboki said the establishment of the council reinforces the judiciary’s commitment to reducing case backlogs and promoting peaceful coexistence through timely and effective dispute resolution. Delivering the keynote address, Professor Nasir Adamu Aliyu SAN of the Department of Public Law, Bayero University Kano, emphasized the transformative role of the institution in justice delivery. He explained that the KMCH, established in 2009 within the High Court premises, was inspired by the “Comprehensive Justice Centre” concept developed by legal scholar Professor Frank Sander. He said the KMCH embodies the judiciary’s commitment to accessible, affordable, and culturally adaptable justice systems, which align with traditional practices such as Sulh, a long-standing method of dispute resolution in Islamic communities. Professor Aliyu outlined three critical priorities for the newly inaugurated council: raising public awareness on ADR as a first-choice option in appropriate cases; ensuring high standards, ethics, and cultural sensitivity among mediators and arbitrators; and promoting innovation through partnerships, technology adoption, and data-driven reform processes. He also called for strategic collaboration between the KMCH and the Kano State Advisory Council of Prerogative of Mercy to assist in resolving criminal matters involving forgiveness, reconciliation, and compensation in line with Sharia principles. He cited the center’s successful mediation of a potentially volatile public dispute between two prominent Islamic clerics in a single sitting, led by respected neutrals such as Sheikh Ibrahim Khalil and Dr. Tahir Adamu (Baba Impossible). In a welcome address, Chief Registrar of the High Court, Barrister Hussein Hassan, described the inauguration as a major advancement in the administration of justice in Kano. He said the establishment of the Governing Council will strengthen coordination and efficiency across mediation, conciliation, arbitration, and restorative justice platforms. He noted that the recently endorsed Practice Direction on Restorative Justice underscores the judiciary’s people-centered approach, focusing on reconciliation and accountability, particularly in criminal matters where social harmony can be restored. Acting Director of the KMCH, Barrister Yahaya Muhd Sani, highlighted the center’s achievements in resolving civil matters such as marital conflicts and business disputes without recourse to the police or lengthy court processes. He stressed that KMCH decisions are binding and enforceable, contributing significantly to decongesting correctional facilities. The Kano State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to fully enforce the ban on commercial motorcycle operations and the restriction on commercial tricycles between 10:00 pm and 6:00 am in designated parts of the state. The directive was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori. According to the statement, the enforcement—earlier announced by the Kano State Government—remains active and operational across nine Local Government Areas, including Kano Municipal, Gwale, Dala, Fagge, Nassarawa, Tarauni, Kumbotso, as well as specific areas of Ungogo (Jido) and Dawakin Kudu (Tambuwal, Gurjiya and Jido wards). The Command noted that the measures are designed to enhance public safety, curb criminal activities, and prevent the spread of unverified information capable of triggering fear or unnecessary tension among residents. A fresh wave of bandit attacks has unsettled parts of Kano State, with at least 13 residents abducted and two others injured during coordinated night raids on Unguwar Tsamiya in Faruruwa village and the nearby Dabawa community, both in Shanono Local Government Area. The incident, which occurred late Sunday night, came less than 24 hours after another attack on the ‘Yan Kamaye community in Tsanyawa Local Government Area—also a border settlement close to Katsina State—where three people were taken away. Residents told The Historica Nigeria that the gunmen arrived under the cover of darkness, shooting sporadically to disperse villagers before seizing their victims. The two injured persons were reportedly caught in the hail of bullets as the attackers advanced. These back-to-back assaults have deepened anxiety in communities along the Kano–Katsina border, where residents say bandit activities have been rising steadily, leaving many villages on edge. Security agencies have yet to release an official statement regarding Sunday night’s attack.
