Aliyu Tanko, the longest-serving editor of BBC Hausa, has resigned after 17 years at the broadcaster.
Tanko confirmed his exit in a message to DCL Hausa on Thursday, saying he stepped down voluntarily but declined to comment on allegations of workplace harassment.
The claims resurfaced after Halima Umar Saleh, now Senior Digital Editor at TRT Afrika, alleged in an interview with Arewa24 that she faced harassment and unfair treatment while working under Tanko. The interview clip was later removed, triggering debate over editorial independence.

In July, The Historica Nigeria reported that several former staff accused BBC Hausa of workplace bullying and intimidation. Saleh described her time at the broadcaster as “one of the most painful moments” of her career.
A source said petitions had been sent to the BBC headquarters in London, but the corporation has yet to respond publicly.
