The Kano Online Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has approved 31 applicants for membership following a comprehensive screening exercise aimed at strengthening professionalism among online media practitioners in the state.
Chairman of the chapel, Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, disclosed this while receiving the report of the membership screening committee, commending the panel for conducting its assignment with orderliness, fairness and transparency.
Dangambo explained that the committee was constituted to help sanitize the journalism profession and ensure that applicants seeking membership meet the standards and requirements stipulated in the NUJ constitution.
He noted that the decision became necessary in view of the increasing number of online media practitioners and social media influencers seeking membership in the union.

According to him, the committee strictly adhered to the NUJ constitutional provisions and guidelines during the screening process to ensure due process and compliance with established procedures.
Dangambo expressed confidence that the exercise would go a long way in strengthening professionalism and preserving the integrity of journalism among operators of online media platforms in Kano State.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Membership Screening Committee, Aliyu Mudi Suleiman, said the panel carried out a thorough review of applicants’ credentials, including registration documents from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), educational qualifications and other relevant requirements.
He revealed that out of the 46 applicants screened so far, 31 were approved for membership, seven were placed on hold for further review, while eight were not approved for failing to meet some of the conditions outlined in the union’s constitutional provisions.
Suleiman added that the committee also forwarded several recommendations to the leadership of the union on ways to improve the process of admitting new members in the future.
