The government of Niger has banned the taking and sharing of photos and videos of vulnerable individuals receiving food assistance during the Ramadan period.
In a statement issued by the country’s Ministry of Interior, authorities announced that no organisation or individual is permitted to capture or publish images of beneficiaries of humanitarian support.
The government stated that such practices amount to exploitation and violate the dignity of those receiving aid, while also exposing them to potential security risks.

According to the statement, the decision aims to protect the rights, dignity, and safety of vulnerable citizens, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan.
It noted that it has become common practice for some individuals and organisations to photograph or record beneficiaries while distributing aid and share such content on social media platforms.
However, authorities expressed concern that such materials are sometimes used for fundraising or other purposes, thereby compromising the privacy and security of those involved.
