INEC Sets Dates for 2027 Presidential, Governorship Elections

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has unveiled the official timetable for the 2027 General Elections, outlining key dates for elections, party primaries, campaigns, and voter registration.

According to the commission, the Presidential and National Assembly elections are scheduled to hold on Saturday, February 20, 2027.

Similarly, Governorship and State House of Assembly elections will take place two weeks later, on Saturday, March 6, 2027.

INEC also announced the approved campaign timelines for political parties and candidates, in line with electoral guidelines.

Presidential and National Assembly campaigns are expected to commence on November 18, 2026, and end on February 19, 2027.

Meanwhile, Governorship and State Assembly campaigns will begin on December 15, 2026, and conclude on March 5, 2027, exactly 24 hours before the elections.

The commission noted that the timetable is designed to ensure adequate preparation, compliance with electoral laws, and a smooth conduct of the elections across the country.
