The Kano State Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services, Air Vice Marshal Ibrahim Umar (Rtd), has resigned his appointment with immediate effect.
The commissioner disclosed this in a resignation letter addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, a copy of which was made available to journalists in Kano on Monday.
According to Umar, his decision to step down was informed by the strained relationship between the Kano State Governor and his political mentor, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso.
In the letter, the former commissioner expressed appreciation to Governor Yusuf for the confidence reposed in him, recalling his appointment as Director General of the Special Services Directorate in June 2023 and his subsequent elevation to Commissioner for Internal Security and Special Services.

He described his service to the state as an honour and privilege, noting that his tenure was guided by the principles of justice, discipline, and service to the people, as espoused by Senator Kwankwaso and the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Umar said that following recent developments, he believed it was in the best interest of the state and the administration for him to step aside, adding that the decision was taken after careful consideration.
He assured the Kano State Government and the people of the state of his continued support and commitment to the goal of a safe, strong, and prosperous Kano.
The former commissioner concluded by praying for divine guidance, wisdom, and good health for Governor Yusuf, as well as continued peace and progress for Kano State and the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
