The population of Tarauni is predominantly Hausa and Fulani, mostly Muslims, with a small portion representing Christians as a minority. Administratively, the LGA is governed by an elected chairman and councilors and is represented in the state assembly and national House of representatives. Tarauni is composed of the following major wards: Tarauni Ward, Gyadi-Gyadi Arewa Ward, Gyadi-Gyadi Kudu Ward, Darmanawa Ward, Daurawa Ward, Babban Giji Ward, Hotoro Ward, Unguwa Uku Cikin Gari Ward, Unguwa Uku Kauyen Alu Ward, and Unguwar Gano Ward.
Tarauni is widely regarded as one of the core metropolitan local government areas of Kano State. Its blend of commerce, education, governance, healthcare, and culture makes it a critical hub where tradition and modern development coexist, serving the needs of residents and the broader city.
