The Coalition of Fulani Associations, Kano State, and Kautal Fulaku Waila Harmony and Outreach have reached an understanding with the producers of the Gidan Badamasi film series over concerns about the portrayal of Fulani characters.
The groups had initially raised concerns with the Kano State Censorship Board, claiming that the film linked their ethnic group to criminal activities such as kidnapping.
Following the complaint, representatives of the associations, the film’s production team, and the Censorship Board, led by Executive Secretary Abba Al-Mustapha, held a meeting to discuss the matter.
Malam Idris Shuaibu, Public Relations Officer of the Coalition of Fulani Associations, said the discussion emphasized the need for the film to reflect the Fulani people’s positive character, traditions, and values, without associating them with criminality.

In response, the director of the series assured the associations that there was no intent to tarnish the image of the Fulani community. He explained that the narrative approach highlights problems before showing solutions and that only a small fraction of the Fulani population are involved in criminal acts.
The National President of Kautal Fulaku Waila Harmony and Outreach, Malam Bello Buba commended the filmmakers for their work and encouraged continued collaboration to ensure respectful and accurate representation in future episodes.
Executive Secretary Abba Al-Mustapha confirmed that the meeting successfully resolved the concerns. “Both parties understand each other now and are seeking ways to work together while maintaining the dignity of Kano’s communities and supporting the growth of the film industry,” he said.
