The Kano State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has announced that preparations are in top gear to host the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in the ancient city of Kano.
This was contained in a statement jointly signed by the Council Chairman, Comrade Sulaiman Abdullahi Dederi, and Secretary, Abubakar Shehu Kwaru, and made available to the media.
According to the statement, the NEC meeting—being organized in line with constitutional provisions—is scheduled to hold from Monday, August 11 to Wednesday, August 13, 2025.

Delegates from all 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, are expected to participate in the high-level gathering. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, attendees will begin arriving on Monday, August 11.
Activities lined up for Tuesday, August 12, include a media tour of projects being executed by the present administration in the state, courtesy visits, a media parley with His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, a technical session of the NEC meeting, and a Dinner/Award Night.
Participants are scheduled to depart on Wednesday, August 13, with a special interactive session between the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahya, and veteran journalists in Kano also slated for the day.
The Council expressed profound appreciation for the financial and moral support received from His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Kano State, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, as well as the State Commissioner for Information, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, for their role in securing the hosting rights.
The statement also prayed for journey mercies for all participants and hoped for fruitful deliberations throughout the course of the NEC meeting.
