The Kano Online Media Chapel has congratulated three prominent figures on receiving Awards of Honour from the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano State Council. The awardees are Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya; Director-General, Media and Communications to the Kano State Governor, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa; and former Commissioner for Information, Baba Halilu Dan Tiye. In a statement, Chapel Chairman Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo praised the recipients for their contributions to information management, media development, and support for journalism practice in Kano State. Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the immediate establishment of a special task force to strengthen security at motor parks and other strategic public locations across the state. The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, who said the move forms part of proactive measures to prevent criminal infiltration and enhance public safety, particularly at major entry and exit points within Kano metropolis. According to the statement, motor parks have been identified as high-risk areas due to heavy human traffic and recent security incidents, including the arrest of suspected miscreants at the Kofar Ruwa Motor Park. He reiterated his administration’s zero-tolerance stance on criminal activities and assured residents that the state government would continue to provide full support to security agencies to safeguard lives and property across Kano State.

A private jet operated by Flybird on Sunday morning crash-landed at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), causing panic but no loss of life. The aircraft, which reportedly flew in from Abuja, was carrying 11 occupants, including three crew members, when the incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. An eyewitness at the airport said the jet experienced difficulties while landing and eventually crash-landed on the runway. “All the passengers were immediately evacuated from the aircraft. There were no casualties,” the eyewitness said. The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has formally integrated online media practitioners into its organisational structure with the commissioning of the Kano State Online Media Chapel office. The office was inaugurated on Saturday at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano during the closing ceremony of the 2025 NUJ Press Week organised by the Kano State Council. Speaking at the event, the NUJ National President, Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, described the initiative as a significant step toward strengthening professionalism, coordination and ethical standards among digital journalists. He noted that online media practice is recognised under the provisions of the amended NUJ Constitution, adding that Kano is among the first states to establish an Online Media Chapel in line with global media practices. Comrade Yahaya urged editors and practitioners of online platforms to uphold the ethics of journalism, promote accuracy and responsibility, and support state and national unity as well as development. He commended the Kano State NUJ Council for its inclusive leadership and innovative programmes that reflect the evolving media landscape. In his remarks, the Chairman of the Kano Online Media Chapel, Abubakar Abdulkadir Dangambo, said the office would enhance coordination, peer regulation and professional engagement among online journalists. He called on members to operate strictly within the ethics of the profession and to continue strengthening the chapel for the collective benefit of practitioners. Dangambo also thanked the NUJ Kano State Council and the Kano State Government for their sustained support toward the growth of online journalism in the state.
