The Northern Youth Assembly (NYA), also known as Majalisar Matasan Arewa, has condemned what it described as the “uncivil and disgusting” behavior of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following his public confrontation with a young military officer in Abuja.
In a statement jointly signed by its President, Dr. Ali Mohammed, and Secretary-General, Dr. Abdulhafiz Garba, the group said Wike’s conduct represents “a manifestation of arrogance, abuse of power, and disregard for decorum” by a public official who should instead serve as a model of leadership and humility.
“The Minister’s public humiliation of the young officer, who was performing his lawful duty, is not only unethical and a display of disregard for civility, but also a direct affront to the Nigerian public service and millions of young citizens who look up to leaders for inspiration,” the statement read.

The youth coalition said the incident, which has gone viral on social media, underscores a “worrying pattern” in Wike’s public life. It accused the minister of serial misconduct, including verbal intimidation of subordinates, politicization of administrative issues, and alleged abuse of power in the FCT.
“This is not the first time the Minister has displayed tendencies that undermine the dignity of public office,” the group stated. “His alleged persistent abuse of power, verbal intimidation of subordinates and elected officials, and lack of transparency in FCT property allocations have eroded public confidence in his leadership.”
The Northern Youth Assembly stressed that leadership in Nigeria must reflect maturity, restraint, and respect for due process.
“His conduct not only disrespects the uniformed institutions of the state, but also undermines the principles of accountability and civility that sustain democracy,” it added.
The group therefore urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to immediately review Wike’s continued stay in office, insisting that his removal would send a strong message that “impunity, verbal abuse, and misuse of public office will no longer be tolerated in Nigeria.”
“Nigeria deserves leaders who uplift institutions, not those who embarrass them; who inspire the youth, not those who intimidate them,” the statement concluded.
