NiMet Forecasts Thunderstorms, Rainfall Across Nigeria from Monday to Wednesday

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted widespread thunderstorms and rainfall across parts of the country between Monday and Wednesday.
In a weather outlook issued on Sunday in Abuja, NiMet said early morning thunderstorms and rain are expected on Monday in northern states including Taraba, Adamawa, Kebbi, Borno, Yobe, Gombe, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Kaduna. Other parts of the North will remain mostly sunny with patches of clouds.
Later in the day, thunderstorms accompanied by moderate rainfall are likely in Adamawa, Taraba, Kebbi, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe, Katsina, Kano, Zamfara, Kaduna, and Yobe.

In the central region, cloudy skies are forecasted in the morning, with thunderstorms and light rain expected in Niger. Afternoon and evening rains are likely in Plateau, Nasarawa, the FCT, Kogi, Benue, and Niger.
For the South, NiMet predicts cloudy morning conditions, followed by light rains in parts of Imo, Abia, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom.
On Tuesday, northern states will experience mostly sunny skies with intermittent clouds in the morning. Bauchi, Gombe, Yobe, and Jigawa are forecasted to have thunderstorms and moderate rain. Later in the day, storms are likely in Adamawa, Taraba, Kano, Katsina, and Kaduna.
In the central region, morning thunderstorms and light rain are expected in Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa, with further rain likely in Plateau, Niger, FCT, and Nasarawa by evening.
The South will see morning clouds, with Akwa Ibom and Cross River experiencing early rain. Moderate showers are expected in Ondo, Imo, Enugu, Anambra, Abia, Edo, Rivers, Delta, Bayelsa, and surrounding states later in the day.
By Wednesday, sunny spells with scattered clouds are forecast for the North, with morning thunderstorms in Katsina, Kano, Bauchi, Sokoto, and Taraba. Rain is expected in Yobe, Jigawa, Kaduna, Bauchi, Borno, and Kebbi later in the day.
The central states including FCT, Plateau, Niger, and Kwara may experience rainfall in the afternoon and evening. In the South, light morning rain is likely in Enugu, Cross River, and Akwa Ibom, followed by heavier rainfall in Ebonyi, Abia, Edo, Ondo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, and others.
NiMet urged the public to take precautionary measures, warning that strong winds may precede thunderstorms in some locations.
“Driving under heavy rain should be avoided. Disconnect electrical appliances from sockets. Stay away from tall trees to prevent injuries from falling branches,” the agency advised.
