The Chairman, Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has inspected facilities at the Malam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) as part of efforts to restore the airport’s lost glory and improve its operational standards.
Speaking to journalists during the visit, Dr. Ganduje noted that the inspection was necessary considering the historical significance of the airport, which he described as one of the oldest in Nigeria and West Africa. He explained that the visit was aimed at assessing both ongoing and abandoned projects with a view to developing a strategic plan for the airport’s modernization and sustainability.
“We are here to see things for ourselves — the old and the new projects — so that we can chart a new course to revitalize this airport and restore its place among the best in the region,” he said.

During the visit, he officially commissioned the old terminal building and renamed it after the late Adamu Dankabo, a renowned Kano-born airliner.
In her remarks, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of FAAN, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, highlighted the agency’s renewed commitment to staff welfare since she assumed office. She said the management has improved working conditions and will continue to prioritize employee well-being as a foundation for effective service delivery and long-term institutional growth.
Separately, during the visitation exercise, Dr. Ganduje met with the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf. They exchanged pleasantries as the Governor was returning from Abuja and Dr. Ganduje was heading back to Abuja.
Dr. Ganduje was accompanied on the inspection tour by senior FAAN officials, board members, and other dignitaries.
