Former President Olusegun Obasanjo on Monday paid a visit to former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (retd.), at his hilltop residence in Minna, the Niger State capital, amid renewed speculation over political manoeuvrings ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Obasanjo arrived in Minna earlier in the day and was received by protocol officials from the Niger State Government House at the Ahmed Bola Tinubu International Airport before proceeding directly to Babangida’s residence.
Sources confirmed that the two former leaders held a closed-door meeting that lasted for about 30 minutes.
Obasanjo did not address journalists after the meeting and departed Minna shortly after, while Babangida had not issued any official statement as of the time of filing this report on the purpose of the visit.

The meeting has, however, fueled fresh political speculation, particularly amid reports that Obasanjo is exploring the possibility of a joint presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to sources, Obasanjo is said to be prodding a proposed alliance between the former Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Peter Obi, and the leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Although neither Obasanjo nor Babangida has publicly confirmed the discussions, observers believe the Minna meeting may not be unconnected with ongoing consultations among key political actors ahead of the next general elections.
