The Kano State Government has launched the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps as part of efforts to strengthen security at the grassroots level and enhance the protection of lives and property across the state.
The corps, made up of 2,000 personnel, was inaugurated at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, with Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf presiding over the ceremony alongside heads of security agencies operating in the state.
‘The Historica Nigeria‘ reports that the Neighbourhood Watch Corps was established to complement the operations of conventional security agencies through improved surveillance, intelligence gathering and community-based security interventions.
Members of the corps, largely drawn from youths across the state, have undergone training in basic security operations, early warning mechanisms and collaboration with the Nigeria Police and other security agencies to prevent crime and maintain public order.

The state government disclosed that the personnel would be deployed across all local government areas, with particular focus on markets, schools, residential communities and other critical public spaces.
It stressed that the initiative forms part of broader measures aimed at ensuring lasting peace, strengthening public safety and building confidence between security agencies and local communities in Kano State.
The government further called on residents to cooperate fully with members of the Neighbourhood Watch Corps, noting that community support remains essential to the success of the initiative and the maintenance of peace and stability across the state.
