The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away on Sunday.
The announcement, made by Minister of Interior Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Magdalene Ajani, follows the seven-day national mourning period earlier declared by President Bola Tinubu.

The minister described the holiday as a tribute to Buhari’s legacy of service, integrity, and commitment to Nigeria’s unity and development.
He urged citizens to honour the late president’s memory by promoting peace, patriotism, and national cohesion.
National flags are to fly at half-mast throughout the mourning period. The government also extended condolences to Buhari’s family, the people of Katsina State, and Nigerians at large.
