Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has assured that his administration will offset all outstanding gratuity and death benefits of retired civil servants in the state, amounting to ₦21 billion, before the end of his first tenure.
Governor Yusuf gave the assurance on Wednesday while flagging off the payment of the fifth tranche of retirees’ gratuities and death benefits at the Coronation Hall, Government House, Kano.
He disclosed that his administration inherited ₦48 billion in unpaid entitlements from the immediate past government of Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, out of which ₦27 billion has already been cleared.

“To date, we have released ₦27 billion to settle part of the backlog, and today we are disbursing another ₦5 billion as the fifth tranche of payments. This brings relief to many retirees and their families who have long awaited their entitlements,” Yusuf said.
The governor described the initiative as part of efforts to restore dignity and justice to those who dedicated their lives to serving the state, stressing that the payments have boosted civil servants’ morale and renewed public confidence in his administration.
He further pledged to continue prioritizing the welfare of both serving and retired civil servants, noting that retirees deserve to enjoy the fruits of their labour after decades of service.
